GRP in dilemma as supposed victim denies of being gang raped

AURANGABAD: The Government Railway Police on Saturday afternoon managed to zero down on the alleged rape victim, who denied of being raped on the early hours of Wednesday.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the city police are looking for three unidentified suspects and the 18-year-old girl from Pune allegedly gang-raped near the godown at the Aurangabad railway station in the wee hours of Wednesday.

City police said the victim had reached the Aurangabad railway station, where she met 17-year-old girl from Tuljapur on June 23. Both of them had allegedly fled from their homes and decided to stay at the waiting hall of the Phase-I of the model railway station.

At around 1.30am, the victim went out and did not return for an hour. Around 6am, the Tuljapur resident spotted her friend lying in a bad shape near the godown. The victim narrated her ordeal to the 17-year-old girl and has since gone missing. After searching for her quite some time, she was advised to approach the city police chief, who asked the Begumpura police to register a ‘zero’ dial complaint and refer it to the GRP.

Based on the complaint received, the GRP registered a case of gang rape against three unidentified suspects.

Soon after the incident came to light, assistant police inspector Shantaram Dambale, in-charge of Aurangabad GRP unit along with a head constable was served suspension orders on Friday.

GRP local crime branch inspector Vasudev Desale told TOI, “Using all the possible leads, we were trying to trace down the girl and on Saturday along with the suspended API managed to zero down on one of the friends of the supposed to be victim girl. A trap was laid and she was called at Siddharth Garden, from where she was rounded up. She has stated that she was never raped. We will produce her in front of the magistrate for recording her statement.”

Officials also maintained that the girl has claimed to be hailing from Nanded and had stayed in Pune for a brief period for her studies.

Following the revelations made by the supposed to be victim girl, the suspended cops are raising serious question over the entire process followed in the registration of rape case and also the hurry the GRP officials showed in suspending them.
