Health institutions to pledge against drug abuse

CHANDIGARH: Pledge against drug abuse will be taken by employees in health institutions of the state to mark the International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on Friday. A state-level function will be organized at Hoshiarpur to mark the event.

This was revealed by Vini Mahajan, principal secretary of health and family welfare, Punjab. She reviewed various arrangements for the event during a meeting with officers of the health department. While emphasizing on various initiatives that have been taken by the department for de-addiction of affected people, she stated that the numbers of de-addiction centres in Punjab will soon increase to 31. She added that nine new de-addiction centres are being opened by the government, apart from the 22 de-addiction centres already functioning in the state. At least one psychiatrist has been provided in all districts by the department to smoothly run these centres.
