Lawyers protest murder of colleague’s wife, daughter
AGRA: Agitated over the murder of a colleague’s wife and handicapped daughter, over 200 lawyers staged a protest at the district court on boycotted work here on Wednesday. They have given the police a 48-hour deadline to nab the culprits. They also blocked MG road between 12.30 pm and 3pm and burnt effigies of the city police.
So far cops have failed to get a breakthrough in double murder of 50-year-old Rama Gulati and 23-year-old Deeksha Gulati, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Cops claim that they are investigating the matter and will nab the murderer soon.
Nitin Verma, vice president Agra Advocate Association, said, “If the police fail in their duty, we will gherao the SSP office and stage a dharna at his office. We will not work during this period.”
Meanwhile, local MP Ramshankar Katheria criticized the cops and said they should not test people’s patience. “We had recently staged a massive protest against the prevailing lawlessness with the cops just acting as mute spectators. We will once again take to the roads to get the administration to hear our demands,” he said, reiterating the party’s earlier demand for imposition of the President’s rule in the state.
Talking to TOI, IG DC Mishra said three police teams have been constituted to investigate the matter and the family as well as neighbours of the deceased women are being interrogated. He said that they have also recovered a CCTV footage from a shoe-shop located opposite the lawyer’s house, which shows that the murderer came to the house in a black car while the lawyer was the district court.
“We are interrogating the kin of the lawyer. As the accused has made a friendly entry inside the house, it is possible that the murderer is known to the family. There seems to be more than one person involved in the crime as the girl’s body was taken to the bathroom after her head was smashed,” said Mishra.
