Woman’s body found in stream, husband detained
KOLHAPUR: A-28-year old woman was found murdered in a stream flowing in Mauje Sangaon village of Kagal taluka on Monday. Police have detained her husband for investigation.
The deceased, Kavita Santosh Magdum, 28, resident of Mauje Sangaon, was found with injuries on head. A murder case has been with Kagal police station.
The police were alerted about a body floating in a stream, which is around one foot deep. Police said KAvita had Kavita had gone to the nearby stream to wash clothes on Monday morning as per her routine.
At around 10am, villagers found her body floating on the stream and informed the police about the incident. Police reached the spot and brought the body out of the water. The body was later sent to the rural hospital, Kagal for post mortem.
She was found with injuries on her forehead, near her ears and eyes. The police also found the clothes she had brought for washing near the body. Some sugarcane crop sown in the field near the stream was damaged and police suspect that she was murdered by hitting stones on her head.
Kagal police said the Magdum couple works in the Kagal-Hatkanangle five star MIDC in different industrial units. They were married for 13 years and have a son and a daughter. Kavita was an orphan and was brought up by her uncle. Kavita’s relatives alleged that Santosh was responsible for her death and suspected that he killed her.
Following their allegations, police registered a case against unidentified person for the murder. They have detained Santosh for questioning. “We have detained Santosh to enquire about the incident. We will arrest him if he is responsible for Kavita’s death,” said a police official from Kagal police station.
