Vittal Police accused of illegally detaining diabetic person
Vittal : An incident wherein the Vittal police took custody of an accused in an assault case who was in hospital for treatment of diabetes and then illegally detained him at the police station for 24 hours without even producing him before the magistrate, has been reported from the town.
DK Mustafa, a lorry owner and resident of Kanthadka in Vittal Kasaba village was reportedly assaulted by three persons near the Banditadka masjid close by Kanyana on June 10, Wednesday. Two of the accused were identified as Muguli Siddique and Gundamajalu Shafi.
Meanwhile, Muguli Siddique, said to be a diabetic got himself admitted to the Pragathi Hospital in Puttur alleging that Mustafa had assaulted him. It is said on June 10, Wednesday Thursday, the Vittal Police who visited the Hospital at the instructions of Bantwal Circle Inspector at around 11 am, took Siddique to the station after informing the doctors that they were taking him to the station for interrogation. Meanwhile, medical records proved that Siddique was a diabetic and had a sugar level 470 and that he was even given high powered tablets .
Meanwhile the police who ought to have produced him before the magistrate within 24 hours after taking him to custody, are facing the allegations of violating human rights by illegally detaining Siddique in the station till late night.
