HC imposes cost on Advocates’ Association
Giving a call for boycotting court proceedings and “physically preventing” some advocates from entering the court halls on Friday proved costly for the Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru.
The High Court of Karnataka ordered imposition of a penalty on the association for its conduct.
Justice Anand Byrareddy passed the order with a direction to the court’s Registrar-General to recover the cost, at the rate of Rs. 500 per case, from the association for all cases that were adjourned in view of the absence of advocates representing the litigants.
Govt. decision opposed
The association was protesting against the State government’s decision of refusing sanction for prosecuting 54 police personnel in the criminal cases related to violence at the City Civil and Sessions Court complex here on March 2, 2012.
