Senior ACB clerk commits suicide in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: Hasmukh Prajapati, a resident of Naroda, ended his life on Wednesday night by jumping into the Sabarmati river. 57-year-old Prajapati was working as senior clerk with the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB). Riverfront (west) police have started investigation in the case.

As per the officials of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES), they fished out the body of Prajapati, a resident of Madhuvan Park Society, Naroda, from near Gandhi Bridge at 8.50am on Thursday.

Police sources said that Prajapati’s son said that his father had left home on Wednesday night. He had called up his son at around 8 pm and told him that he was near Patang Hotel and was going to end life due to workload. When he tried to contact him after reaching Nehru Bridge, Prajapati’s phone was switched off.

Sources at ACB said that Prajapati was working with the ACB headquarters in the city. He was transferred to the headquarters two months ago after he his promotion. Prajapati had worked in the same office earlier, said officials. Police are yet to ascertain the exact cause behind his suicide.
