20-year-old slits throat in Bandra court
MUMBAI: A 20-year-old man, Jigar Makwana, slit his throat with a razor blade inside the Bandra metropolitan court on Monday. He was protesting against his brother’s arrest by the Khar police.
The incident sparked commotion in the court. Jigar, a Santacruz resident, was rushed to a hospital and is stable. His brother, Ravi, and 23 others have been arrested on the charges of dacoity and rioting. The group has been accused of entering a bungalow in Pali Hill last Wednesday and throwing out an 80-year-old woman, Dulcene Ansari. The property is under dispute. Ansari’s daughter-in-law had told the cops that the accused had snatched their cellphones and manhandled them.
On Monday, the accused, including Ravi, were brought to the Bandra court for remand and produced before the magistrate. “The court has sent Ravi to police custody. In the court, Jigar tried to explain that his brother was innocent, but the magistrate ignored him. He then pulled out a razor blade and tried to slit his own throat. He sustained injuries,” said the police.
The police was informed and Jigar, who works in a private firm, was rushed to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra.
