Tension at Sanjaynagar police station
Tension prevailed at Sanjaynagar police station on Friday evening after several members of NGOs questioned the mysterious death of a 10-year-old girl. While they alleged that the son of a senior politician from another State was involved in the “rape and murder” of the girl, the police maintained that she died of dengue.
Sources said the girl’s mother, who hails from Maharashtra, worked as a domestic help at the residence of the politician’s son.
Members of the Praja Rajakiya Vedike and Vimochana, who went to the police station, said the detention of four persons, including the politician’s son, for questioning raised suspicion. They alleged that the accused had sexually assaulted the girl on June 7, resulting in her death in a hospital on Thursday.
The police, however, maintained that the four had been detained for questioning related to another case. The police had also detained the girl’s mother on the pretext of questioning her.
Meanwhile, a senior woman police officer has been deputed to conduct a detailed probe. “We are awaiting the post-mortem report,” an officer said.
