Cops file FIR against farmer who died 17 yrs ago

Agra: Agra police expects a dead man to surrender in court. And cops have booked him, a farmer who died 17 years ago, for ‘disturbing peace and attempt to murder’. They have also managed to get impounding orders from the district court, after which the accused is supposed give himself up within a month. Cops in the Iradat Nagar police station have lodged an FIR under Section 144 (disturbing peace) and 307 (attempt to murder) against Kedarnath Sharma, his two sons, Rajendra Sharma, Sanjay Sharma and three other persons, all resident of Agra’s Sevla Ahir village. Except that Kedarnath died in 1988. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Sushil Sharma, who alleged that the accused attacked him while he was working in his fields on June 28, 2013. Sanjeev Dubey, the investigating officer (IO), at that time, submitted a report to the Iradat Nagar police station’s station house officer (SHO), claiming that the man, who has been made the accused in the case died in 1998. The SHO closed the case, in February 2014, after finding it fake. A source from police department informed that the policemen have lodged an FIR against six persons on the basis of foot prints they have seen in the fields. “The complainant was not hurt. When the cops asked him to give the evidence that he has been attacked, he showed them the footprints in his fields and said that these are the evidence that some persons have entered in his fields and attacked on him. This is shocking that even after not having any concrete proof, the cops filed a case against six persons that too under serious sections,” added the official. The present SHO reopened the case again few months back. He also managed to get an impounding order against the accused in the case. “How can a man who died long back be present in court,” asked Rajendra Sharma, deceased’s elder son. The victim’s family met SSP Agra on Thursday. They alleged that the police has taken bribe from the complainant to re-open the case. The official ordered probe in the matter. SP Rural, Babita Sahu, said, “We are investigating the matter.”
