Medical student arrested for cheating University through impersonation
Manipal, Jun 10: The Manipal police have arrested a 26-year-old postgraduate medical student for involving in impersonation and cheating Manipal University.
Anshul Grower (26), a resident of Kurukshetra in Haryana, who had obtained an MD seat, was arrested on the basis of a complaint given by Manipal University.
Mr Grower had applied for an MD seat and written an online examination on February 19, 2015. He then attended the counselling on March 10 and got selected for an MD seat. He submitted original documents to the University on May 20.
But when these documents were checked for biometric and finger prints on May 30, they did not tally.
The police said that the person who wrote the examination, who attended the counselling, and the person who finally came for admission, was different.
A person impersonating Anshul had written the online examination and a different person had come for the counselling and cheated Manipal University.
Anshul was arrested in Manipal on Monday and produced before the court in Udupi on Tuesday, which remanded him in judicial custody till Wednesday.
A case under Sections 419 and 420 of Indian Penal Code and Sections 25 and 118 of Karnataka Education Act had been registered at Manipal police station and investigations were on, the police said.
