Police file arms case against dead UP man
BAREILLY: Even as his kin grope in the dark to understand why a local businessman might have shot himself dead, UP police have filed a case against the dead man under Section 25 of the Arms Act, charging him with illegal possession of a firearm. Policemen are still not sure, however, that the case is not one of murder.
Vishesh Kumar, a resident of Model Town, ran an electronics showroom in the city. On Saturday morning, he went out of his house to open the shop. His family failed to contact him after that. His mobile phone was switched off. His car was found that evening, parked in the Fun City area. The man was found within, lying in a pool of blood and with injuries to his head.
Local police, on preliminary investigation, suspected it was a case of suicide. The post-mortem report also said that the death was because of the gunshot injury. “Under the rules, if an illegal firearm is found in the possession of any person — living or dead — it is mandatory to lodge an FIR under the Arms Act,” SP (city) Rajeev Malhotra said.
