Woman dies after childbirth; family blames medical negligence for death
UDUPI: Family members and relatives of a woman who died on April 24, Friday, hardly a week after giving birth to a child, staged a protest outside the Adarsha Hospital near the KSRTC bus stand in the town blaming medical negligence for the cause of the death of the woman. The protestors also lodged a complaint with Udupi SP Annamalai who rushed to the spot on gathering information.
The deceased is Varsha (23), wife of Devadas Belchada of Surkalu near Katapady.Varsha was admitted to the Adarsha Hospital in Udupi on April 18, Saturday evening. It is learnt gynaecologist Chayalatha had attended on Varsha who had a normal delivery and gave birth to a baby girl.
However, the family members of Varsha who say the child was normal, alleged that the doctors had lied that the child’s condition was critical and had shifted both Varsha and the child to Manipal Varsha was given in marriage to Devadas Belchada of Kurkal two years ago, Devadas who used to work in the Gulf earlier was presently working as a painter in his home town.
Hospital clarifies: Meanwhile, Dr. G Chandrashekhar, Managing Director of Adarsha Hospital said “The case of Varsha was one in ten thousand. “As her condition worsened after delivery she was shifted to KMC Hospital, Manipal after furnishing all information to the doctors there. There is no negligence on the part of our doctors.”
