12-Year-Old Boy Jumps Off School Building, Allegedly After Teacher’s Rebuke
Mumbai, Feb 25: A 12-year-old boy jumped to his death from the fourth floor of his school near Mumbai on Tuesday, allegedly after he was scolded by a teacher.
Gaurav Kank was a Class 6 student of the New Horizon Public School in Navi Mumbai.
On Tuesday morning, he was allegedly told off by his science teacher for misbehavior.
“His father has complained to us about the negligence of the school authorities and we have started the investigation,” said Janardhan Thorat, a senior police officer.
There have been no arrests so far. Gaurav’s teachers are being questioned.
Gaurav allegedly opened a window and jumped off.
A group of parents gathered to protest at the school, holding it responsible for not ensuring the safety of children.
“The school authority is responsible for the incident. We told them to put the grills in the classrooms,” said a parent.
“How can it be the school’s negligence? We are also shocked as to why this has happened. We are planning to find out why this has happened and this won’t happen in the future,” Renuka Balaji, the school principal, told reporters.
