PATNA: About 64 students of Government Primary School of Chandwari in Vaishali district were rushed to Hajipur sadar hospital when they complained of nausea and vomiting after consuming the midday meal (MDM) on Thursday.

Vaishali DM Vinod Singh Gunjiyal told TOI in the evening that all kids were out of danger. “The MDM is supplied by an NGO, Ekta Foundation, in 10 blocks of Vaishali and the menu on Thursday comprised cooked rice, dal and vegetable curry.”

According to the initial investigation reports, when the NGO delivered the food to the school, it was poured into another utensils at the school and the cooks tasted it before serving it to the students. “Once the cooks okayed it, the students were served the meal. But, after 15-20 minutes the cooks complained of vomiting and few other students also followed,” Gunjiyal said, adding, “I immediately informed the DEO and other officials and two ambulances were rushed to the spot.”

The DM said few students had already left for their homes but as a precautionary measure the district administration got all the students screened at the town hospital and the cooks were also treated. “The situation created some panic among the parents but they were soon reassured. A detailed inquiry of the incident will be conducted to find out the cause of the problem,” Gunjiyal said.
