Girl, brother charred to death in Jaipur

JAIPUR: A girl and her 13-year-old brother were burnt alive when the makeshift home they were sleeping in caught fire in village near Bassi late on Sunday. Police said that the victims, their four other siblings and their parents were in the house. While the parents rescued four children, the fire engulfed the girl and her brother. The police said that the girl was getting married in the next few years.

According to police, the victims were identified as Gyana (18) and Yuvraj. The fire broke out at the makeshift house belonging to Lalram Meena in Gudha Meena village.

“Lalaram, his wife Rajanti and their children were sleeping in the house when fire broke out at around 11.30pm on Sunday due to unknown reasons,” said a police officer.

The officer said that while Lalaram and Rajanti managed to rescue the four children, Gyana and Yuvraj were engulfed in flames. By the time the police and fire tenders rushed to the spot, the two siblings were charred to death. Six goats were also charred to death.

Lalaram and his wife also sustained burn injuries in their attempt to rescue the children stuck in the fire. “Gyana and Yuvraj were rushed to a nearby hospital; however, doctors declared them brought dead. A postmortem examination of the bodies was conducted and then they were handed over to the family members,” said the officer.

The officer added that the cause of fire is yet unknown. The villagers said that Gyana’s wedding was supposed to take place next month, so the entire family was busy with preparations.
