Jawan held for harassing passenger in train
MORADABAD: An Army jawan has been arrested for sexually harassing a co-passenger on board the Shaheed Express train in the early hours of Saturday. At the time of the incident, he was said to be drunk. He has been sent to Moradabad district jail.
According to the Suprintendent of Police, GRP, Vaibhav Krishna, a 30-year-old woman posted as an officer at a nationalised bank at Mau was travelling from Mau in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi in the AC coach of the train. The 45-year-old Jawan, Vijay Sav, with the 114 I.A.R Battalion, was returning to Patiala after a vacation at home in Bihar.
The Shaheed Express train was heading from Madhubani in Bihar to Amritsar in Punjab. The woman had boarded the train from Mau.
At around 1:30 am, after the train had pulled out from Lucknow station, Sav who was travelling in the same compartment, pulled off the sleeping woman’s blanket and tried to sexually harass her. She resisted and hearing her cries other passengers intervened and informed the TT about the man.
The TT of the coach informed to the railway control room immediately. When the Shaheed Express reached Moradabad railway station at about 9.30 in the morning, GRP officials and constables boarded the train and arrested the jawan.
GRP officals confirmed that he was drunk.
Speaking with TOI, SHO GRP, Moradabad, Ayyub Hassan said, “Jawan Vijay Sav told us during interrogation that he is a resident of Sitamarhi Bihar and posted in Patiala. He was heavily drunken, according to the complaint written by woman. He was sent to the jail after medical examination.”
Railway police have informed the Army authorities about the incident.
