Police rescue 45 children from gold polishing workshops in Old City
HYDERABAD: The South Zone police on Thursday rescued 45 children working in gold polishing workshops in Hussaini Alam, Charminar and a few other locations.
As part of ‘Operation Smile’, police raided small-scale units involved in gold polishing work where hazardous material would be used.
By employing children, the employers had been using them for polishing gold ornaments belonging to various gold jewellers. All the rescued children hail from West Bengal. The rescued children were handed over to the child welfare department. Police said five persons were arrested and the drive would continue.
