Pyramid Baba ‘disciple’ held for duping women
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Gopalapatnam cops on Saturday arrested Konathala Venkata Ramana, who claims to be a close disciple of Pyramid Spiritual Societies Movement and Pyramid Party of India founder Subhash Patri, for allegedly duping three unemployed women to the tune of Rs 15 lakh after promising them jobs in Vietnam.
ACP (north) V Bhima Rao said Venkata Ramana collected Rs 5 lakh each from three women a few years ago by promising them jobs there but had since settled in Vietnam, where he was working as a yoga coach.
He landed in the Port City a few days ago to attend to the ceremonies of his deceased mother. After learning of his arrival, the victims lodged a complaint at Gopalapatnam police station and Venkata Ramana was arrested on charges of cheating.
Sources said the accused Ramana also tried to influence the cops by claiming to be close to Subhash Patri and even showed them pictures of him with the controversial spiritual guru. However, activists of the Progressive Organisation for Women staged a protest and demanded that the police take stringent action against Venkata Ramana, who allegedly also sought sexual favours from the victims.
