Youth serious after police torture
VIJAYAWADA: A charted accountancy student was seriously injured in an alleged attack by the police in the early hours of Tuesday.
The victim, Y Kalyana Chakravarthi, was rushed to a private hospital by his friends where he is battling for life. However, the victim did not lodge a complaint against the police. Chakravarthi and his friend Durga Rao were returning home in the city on a two-wheeler after attending a function in Guntur in the early hours of Tuesday. Chakravarthi was the pillion. A police team attempted to stop the two-wheeler. A constable allegedly chased and attacked Durga Rao. Chakravarthi objected to the highhanded attitude of the constable. A reserve SI, who was handling the ‘operation’, dragged Chakravarthi on the street and beat him up. The RSI and the constable left the spot after noticing that Chakravathi was seriously injured in the attack, said Sambasiva Rao.
He alleged that the victim was left without medical attention for about half an hour as the policemen left in a hurry. Local ACP Prabhakara Babu denied the allegation. He alleged that Chakravarthi was under the influence of alcohol when he was stopped.
