Student dies in mishap
HYDERABAD: A first year degree student on the way to attend special classes at her college was run over by a tipper at Dhobhighat X roads in Saidabad on Sunday morning.
The victim was identified as R Varalaxmi of Haindavi Degree College in Champapet. The incident happened at 8.30 am on Sunday while Varalaxmi was going to the college on a two-wheeler to attend special classes. Varalaxmi was pillion riding and her elder brother Yoganand was riding the scooter.
As they were nearing Dhobhighat X Roads, a tipper came to the left side of the scooter and an ambulance of a private hospital to its right. As there were some cement bricks next to the median, the ambulance driver applied a sudden break after slightly turning the vehicle to left. “With no space to go forward, Yoganand applied sudden break and the two-wheeler fell on the road. Both Varalaxmi and Yoganand also fell on the road and Varalaxmi was crushed under the rear tyre of the tipper,” Saidabad inspector A Srinivasulu said. Yoganand suffered injuries, but police said he was out of danger.
After the incident, the tipper driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot. Based on a complaint lodged by Yoganand, police registered a case against both tipper and ambulance drivers under sections 304-A and 337 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
