Constable hit by SUV dies, errant driver at large
NEW DELHI: The 45-year-old police constable, who got injured on Sunday after being hit by an SUV near Ghazipur border, succumbed to injuries at a private hospital on Tuesday.
Although the entire incident was captured in the CCTV camera, police have not yet identified the errant driver as the car number was not clear. Police teams have been sent to the neighbouring states to identify and nab the driver.
The car was from Uttarakhand and had a political poster on it. It seemed that the car was part of the ongoing election campaigning, said a police official.
Constable Ajmer Singh was from Sonepat, Haryana, and was living in Delhi alone. His wife, Jagwanti, and his two sons, Ajay (23) and Aryan (11), who live in Sonepat rushed to Delhi on early Monday morning when they found out about his critical condition.
His elder son Ajay Kumar said that Singh died because of the heavy internal bleeding. Ajay, who is a computer science engineer, had quit his job fifteen days ago. “My father wanted me to do a government job and therefore I quit my job in a private company and started preparing for various government service examinations,” said Ajay.
Ajay said his father, who had joined the police force in 1988, was passionate about his job but never wanted his sons to be in police force.
Singh’s body was taken to his native place for cremation. Compensation will be given to the family.
